Privacy policy

Short version: our tools run on your device and we never see what you enter into them. We only receive what you choose to send us through a form, and we ask you not to send detailed medical information. Advertising partners such as Google may use cookies, and you can control that.

Who we are

206206.com (“206206”, “we”) is an independent website offering free bone and joint health education, tools and care matching. You can reach us about anything in this policy through the contact page; choose “Privacy request” as the topic.

Tools: stored only on your device

The 206 Bone Explorer, quiz, risk check, calcium calculator and exercise planner run entirely in your browser. Some save your answers or best score in your browser's local storage so you can pick up where you left off. That data stays on your device and isn't sent to us. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

Information you send us

When you submit a form, such as a Find a Specialist request, a risk-check result email, a provider listing request, a contest entry, a support pledge, an advertising inquiry, a job application, a newsletter signup or a message, we receive the details you enter. That can include your name, email address, phone number, location, organization and your answers. We also record the page you were on, the time of submission and the consent boxes you ticked, so we can show what you agreed to.

Some answers, such as the kind of bone or joint concern you'd like help with or an age range, relate to health. We collect only what's needed to route your request, we ask you not to include detailed medical history, and we use these answers only for the purpose you sent them.

Form submissions are delivered to our inbox by FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), a form-forwarding service, which processes them on our behalf.

How we use your information

  • To respond to you and provide what you asked for, such as care options, your risk-check result or a reply.
  • To share your Find a Specialist request with up to three matching providers, only if you tick the box asking us to. Those providers may pay us a fee.
  • To run contests: checking eligibility, judging, contacting winners and paying prizes.
  • To send The 206 Brief, only if you ask for it. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
  • To keep the site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and meet legal obligations.

Where privacy laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on your consent (which you can withdraw at any time), on taking steps you've asked for, on our legitimate interests in running and protecting the site, and on legal obligations. For health-related answers, we rely on your explicit consent.

Cookies, advertising and analytics

We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this website and to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and other sites on the internet. Learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

If we turn on Google Analytics, it uses cookies to tell us which pages and tools are used most, in aggregate. In regions that require it, a consent message lets you choose before ad or analytics cookies are used. We don't send your tool answers to advertising or analytics services.

Your ad choices

  • Turn off personalized ads from Google in Google's Ads Settings.
  • Opt out of personalized ads from many third-party vendors at aboutads.info, or in Europe at youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Ads may still appear, but they won't be personalized.

Videos, fonts and hosting

  • Videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and don't load until you press play. Once you play a video, YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
  • Fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser sends a request, including your IP address, to Google's servers.
  • Hosting is provided by GitHub Pages, which may log technical information such as IP addresses for security and operations.

Who we share information with

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the site (form delivery, email, hosting, advertising and analytics), with care providers when you've ticked a box asking us to, with payment providers if you choose to support us, and when the law requires it. We don't sell your information to data brokers.

How long we keep it

  • Find a Specialist requests and messages: up to 24 months.
  • Newsletter details: until you unsubscribe.
  • Contest entries: up to 24 months after the contest ends; winners' records as long as tax law requires.
  • Job applications: 12 months, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR and UK GDPR, Canada's PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, and US state laws such as California's and Washington's My Health My Data Act, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your information, to get a copy of it, to withdraw consent, to object to or restrict some uses, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. To make a request, use the contact page and choose “Privacy request.” We'll respond within the time the law requires and won't treat you differently for using your rights. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

206206's learning tools can be used in classrooms, but our forms are for adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. Class contest entries are submitted by a teacher or adult leader and must not include children's full names or faces.

International transfers and security

Our service providers may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States. We use reputable providers and limit what we collect. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please don't send detailed health records or government ID numbers through our forms.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
